Director, illustrator, editor, musician, accomplished multitalented artist JOANN SFAR deploys his universe across all media: print, exhibitions, live action film and animation.

After studying Fine Arts in Paris, JOANN SFAR quickly started collaborating with famous comic book artists such as Edmond Baudoin, Fred and Pierre Dubois. Since the early 90’s he has been regarded as one of the most important artists of the new Franco-Belgian comics scene with his series “The Rabi’s Cat” translated in more than 25 languages.

JOANN SFAR directed his first feature film, “Gainsbourg: Vie Héroïque”, in 2010; a poetic tale about the turbulent life of the French musician, surrounded by contemporary icons: Laetitia CASTA as BARDOT or ANNA MOUGLALIS as GRECO.

JOANN’s universe is filled with beautiful young women, strange puppets and cinematographic references at the crossroads of mystery, fantasy and glamour.

In 2011, JOANN directed “The Rabi’s Cat”, an adaptation of his famous comic series, which was presented as part of the Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival 2011 and won him his 2nd Cesar for Best Animation Film.

JOANN SFAR has signed with WANDA for commercial films in order to confront his overflowing creativity and his vision of the French Woman with the universe of Fashion and Luxury.
